Tinman Podcast

I’m a former college soccer coach and avid music fan. Many episodes will have a hand in one or both of those topics, but we’ll also delve into entrepreneurship, leadership, and other subjects. Basically, this podcast is my way to reconnect with old friends, get new perspectives, and help others share their own stories, passions, and expertise.

Darren Rogers is the Senior Director of Communications at Churchill Downs.  There are few people you can hear from heading into Kentucky Derby 150 that will have a deeper connection to the sport or the world's most famous track.  Darren can be found on media outlets around the state, around the nation, and around the world at this time of year, including as a co-host of the Inside the Kentucky Derby podcast alongside Kevin Kerstein.  I was lucky he took a few minutes to share some insights on this year’s Kentucky Derby field and the post positions.  Hopefully you can take a nugget or two that might help you as you watch or bet the race on Saturday. Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast! Travis Stone, the Voice of Churchill Downs, is preparing to call Kentucky Derby 150, his tenth as track announcer.   He started with a bang calling American Pharoah's victory to start his triple crown campaign, and he's seen a little bit of everything since.  Travis grew up a short drive from another famous track near Saratoga, NY.   A career sparked by a childhood dream, his journey to the announcer's booth started when he raced marbles and matchbox cars on homemade race tracks sketched on his parents’ floors.  Whether he’s painting the picture of a thrilling stretch drive or capturing the sheer excitement of the Derby, Travis brings a perspective to horse racing that’s rooted in passion, honed by years of practice, and delivered with a voice that makes every listener feel like they’re standing alongside him from the best seat in the house. We talk about some of his strategies and preparation and the uniqueness of not just the Kentucky Derby race, but the entire build up.  And of course we talk about Kentucky Derby 150!Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast! Scott Davenport is a national championship basketball coach at Bellarmine University.  He's also a horseman at heart, having developed a love for thoroughbreds and racing while growing up just blocks from Churchill Downs.  As we prepare for Kentucky Derby 150, it just seemed natural to check in with Coach Davenport.  We start with a little bit of discussion about Bellarmine and the state of college basketball.  He also talks about the pride in his childhood neighborhood putting their best foot forward at Derby time.  Then we talk about the Davenport Derby Dash, Louisville's newest Derby week tradition, kicking things off on Wednesday May 1.  The money raised benefits the Davenport Family Scholarship, which supports the programs student managers.  Items up for auction or raffle include a personal barrel of bourbon from Woodford Reserve.  You can check out information at the following link.https://one.bidpal.net/2024raffleddd/welcomeInside the Kentucky Derby - Around the Downs with Scott and Doug Davenporthttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/inside-the-kentucky-derby/id1652895977?i=1000652749960Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast! Jeremy Jarvi and George Davis IV join the podcast to discuss the Lou City and Racing Foundation and its programming.  Since Lou City's arrival a decade ago, they have won multiple titles, built a 15,000 seat soccer specific stadium, and watched parent company Soccer Holdings Inc. add Racing Louisville of the NWSL.  When it came time to give back to the community that has supported them so well, Jarvi, a Louisvillian with extensive non-profit experience, and Davis, an original Lou City start were natural fits to get the ball rolling.  They share about work with local youth and upcoming events.  To learn more check out some of the links below.https://loucityracingfoundation.org/WHAS StoryWDRB StorySupport the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast!
