Tinman Podcast

I’m a former college soccer coach and avid music fan. Many episodes will have a hand in one or both of those topics, but we’ll also explore entrepreneurship, leadership, and other subjects. This podcast is my way to reconnect with old friends, get new perspectives, and help others share their own stories, passions, and expertise.

Bobby Ray has spent over a decade officiating women's college basketball games in the ACC and numerous other conferences.  The seventh of seven kids and son of a coach, basketball and competition have been part of his life from day one.  After his own stint as a coach, Ray eventually dove headfirst into the world of officiating.
Our conversation touches on a variety of topics, including the nuances of calling a game, interacting with coaches, and the logistics of life on the road. Ray shares stories about some his favorite venues and a few crazy endings.  He ends with a story about a blown call that cost a team a championship, one that has stuck with him and motivated him for years.
Spoiler alert, referees are humans too!  Bobby Ray provides some context for us all while talking about his passion.

Gary Dunn is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  As part of the Steeler's dynasty in the 1970s, he helped the juggernaut win Super Bowl XIII over the Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl XIV over the Los Angeles Rams.
Dunn was drafted by Pittsburgh in 1976 as a defensive tackle out of Miami (FL).  He had to battle to earn his spot on the team, trying to make a name for himself among the Steel Curtain defense featuring he likes of Mean Joe Greene, LC Greenwood and numerous others.  Dunn would eventually prove his worth, becoming named a team captain by legendary coach Chuck Knoll.
We talk about his south Florida roots with strong family ties to the University of Miami, and his post-football life in the Florida Keys to bookend several great stories about his Super Bowl experiences.  If you've ever wondered what goes on at the bottom of the pile in a Super Bowl, this is the episode for you!

Daymeon Fishback has contributed as a game and studio basketball analyst for ESPN and the SEC Network since 2014.  You can find him on your tv set multiple times a week breaking down college hoops action.  We discuss his experiences as a player, the deeply competitive Southeastern Conference, and the greater college basketball landscape.
Growing up in Bowling Green, KY, Fishback starred at Greenwood High School, leading the team to the 1995 State Tournament as a junior.  He followed that up with a senior campaign that saw him named Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball in 1996.
He then moved on to Auburn University, playing under legendary coach Cliff Ellis and serving as a team captain.  In 1999, the Tigers won the SEC regular season championship, earning a number one see in the NCAA tournament.  After battling multiple injuries and playing professionally in the D-League, Italy, Yugoslavia, and France, Fishback spent a decade in the financial services industry before beginning his career as an analyst at ESPN.

We kick off Season 3 with Joe Gruschecky, front man of Joe Grushecky and Houserockers.  With over 20 albums to his credit Grushecky has delivered powerful live performances, spent years collaborating with Bruce Springsteen, and helped raise over 8 million dollars for the Light of Day Foundation to fight Parkinsons and ALS.  Most of this was done while maintaining a full-time career as a special education teacher, making Grushecky one of the most unique stories in rock n roll.
Critically acclaimed for over 30 years, publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, and countless others have hailed him as one of rock & roll’s most talented singer-songwriters.
Bruce Springsteen produced the Houserocker's 'American Babylon' album, co-writing two songs and performing on most of the tracks.  The relationship between the two hard-rocking storytellers has continued over the years, with The Boss winning a Grammy for his performance of a song co-written with Grushecky.
One former review reads...."In a better world, Joe Grushecky would live in a mansion down the road from Springsteen's. Instead, this enormous talent spends his days teaching some of western Pennsylvania's most troubled children....Who do you know who has made back-to-back great albums more than 20 years ago, and is doing the same thing now. There's Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, Springsteen, maybe a few more. He's on that level."
Grushceky has been part of the Light of Day Winterfest shows along the Jersey shore since day one, still serving on the Light of Day Foundation Board.  The Light of Day Foundation, utilizes the power of music to raise money and awareness in its continuing battle to defeat Parkinson’s disease and its related illnesses ALS and PSP.  This year’s shows will take place January 16th through January 20th.  Be sure to check out the links below and more information.

Tom Hambridge is a four-time Grammy winning performer, songwriter, and producer.  Along with his own bands, he has collaborated with rock and blues icons like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, Susan Tedeschi, George Thorogood, and Keith Richards just to name a few.
Hambridge started banging on pots and pans as a kid and never looked back. Gigs with his older brother at high school dances turned into a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, one of the most respected music schools in the country, and eventually a band of his own. His work garnered many Boston music awards, and caught the ear of other music legends, starting the ball rolling to his accomplished career to date.
Hambridge is also an avid sports fan.  Originally from Buffalo, he is part of Bills mafia, and his time in Boston put him there during the peak of the Celtics-Lakers rivalry and the 1986 World Series.  His combination of musical talent and sports fandom make him a perfect guest for this podcast. There’s a lot to talk about in this one.
