Tinman Podcast
I’m a former college soccer coach and avid music fan. Many episodes will have a hand in one or both of those topics, but we’ll also delve into entrepreneurship, leadership, and other subjects. Basically, this podcast is my way to reconnect with old friends, get new perspectives, and help others share their own stories, passions, and expertise.

Fred Tackett is a multi-instrumentalist whose unique talents have made him a sought-after session musician for decades. While his friendship and collaboration with Little Feat’s founder Lowell George pre-dates his time as an official member of the band, Tackett’s contributions on the guitar, mandolin, and trumpet have helped cultivate Little Feat’s sound for over 40 years. Little Feat has been described as “one of the great melting pots of southern music, drawing heavily on country, folk, blues, soul, swamp pop and R&B to create their signature sound". That sound can be heard in songs like ‘Dixie Chicken’, ‘Willin’, and ‘Feats Don’t Fail Me Now’.Tackett is a laid back and easy-going conversationalist, and it is very evident how much he has enjoyed his journey, and how much the music still means to him. We discuss his musical roots, his work with a variety of artists, and of course memories from his time with Little Feat.Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast! Don Brewer, drummer and co-founder of Grand Funk Railroad, joins the pod for a conversation ahead of the band's visit to the Louisville Palace on Thursday, October 17th.Hailing from Flint, Michigan, Grand Funk Railroad reached peak popularity in the 1970s with songs like ‘We’re An American Band’, ‘I’m Your Captain’, ‘The Locomotion’ and ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ among others. They opened the Atlanta Pop Festival, sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles, and the response they received opening for Led Zeppelin resulted in a bit of jealousy from the hard rocking Brits. Brewer’s skill on the drums has led to recording and touring with artists like Frank Zappa and Bob Seger and Silver Bullet Band. We discuss his introduction to music, early projects, and of course the formation and continued music of Grand Funk Railroad. You can find tickets for the show on Thursday, October 17th at https://www.louisvillepalace.com/Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast! Centre alumnus Jay Hoffman (300-77-36) has been the head coach of Colonels women's soccer since the 2004 season, leading the program to conference, regional and national success. Highlights of Hoffman’s tenure include eleven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-2022), ten straight Southern Athletic Association titles (2012-2022) and a 2015 NCAA Final Four run.The wins are only part of the story for Hoffman. He is just as happy to tell you about what his former players have gone on to do as graduates and ambassadors for the school. He is a greatly successful coach, but more importantly, he runs a collegiate athletics program the way it is supposed to be run, helping build the next generation of professionals and leaders that will impact their communities. It’s my pleasure to share a conversation with my friend, Jay Hoffman, as we catch up on the heels of his 300th win as a head coach!Support the showWe appreciate you listening to the Tinman Podcast!
